Sally North

Sally North (MAIOH) has qualifications in chemistry, occupational safety and health, business administration and occupational hygiene and toxicology. She has extensive experience as a work health and safety inspector, with a focus on occupational hygiene issues, and is currently a Director in a work health and safety regulatory agency. Sally leads a directorate of specialist inspectors focussing on occupational health and hygiene, human factors, ergonomics, plant and engineering as well as industry based work health and safety inspectors. Sally has provided input into the development of national model legislation and codes, and works with other agencies on issues such as asbestos, flammable refrigerants and fitness for work. Sally has experience as a school board member and is the past president of a not-for-profit association in the education sector.

Raelene Young

Raelene is a Certified Occupational Hygienist with over 20 years’ experience in Oil and Gas. Raelene is currently the Health Manager and Lead Industrial Hygienist for Viva Energy Australia and is based in Victoria. Her portfolio extends to the management of the Viva Energy Health Team who ensure that workers are fit for duty and Occupational Hygiene support to all parts of their business. Like all Occupational Hygienists, Raelene’s passion is to ensure that everyone can enjoy their retirement without an occupational illness especially in smaller business’ and young workers. She is very honoured to be on the AIOH Foundation Board and to be provided the opportunity to support the Australian community in the recognition of health risks and the implementation of appropriate controls.

Rob Golec

Robert holds post-graduate degrees in Analytical Chemistry and Toxicology and is a Certified Occupational Hygienist and Fellow of the AIOH. He has been a practising Occupational Hygienist since 1982 initially with Victorian government and more recently in consulting. Robert is Principal Occupational Hygienist with AMCOSH Pty Ltd, a private consulting firm based in Victoria, providing specialist OH services to a wide range of public and private sector clients. He is co-chair of the AIOH Exposure Standard Committee, a member of the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) Accreditation Advisory Committee for Life Sciences and represents the Institute on the Standards Australia CH-031 Methods for the Examination of Workplace Atmospheres Committee. Robert has been a member of conference committees for five AIOH annual conferences including as Scientific Chair for the Melbourne 2018 conference. Robert received the AIOH’s Airmet Professional Development Award in 2002.

Jackii Shepherd

Jackii Shepherd is the Director, Occupational Hygiene at WorkSafe ACT. Jackii is a full member of the AIOH, FAMANZ and ACTRA. She has a degree in Applied Science (Human Biology), post-graduate qualifications in epidemiology and biostatistics and training in medical laboratory science and toxicology. Jackii has previously worked at Safe Work Australia where she guided improvements in occupational hygiene policy, health monitoring and lead the review of the workplace exposure standards. Jackii is passionate about developing the capability of OH in Australia and our Pacific neighbours and nurturing up-and-coming OH professionals and researchers.

Tracey Bence

Tracey was delighted to join the Board of the AIOH Foundation in July 2021 because of its important and unique mission to protect worker health. Tracey has a Masters degree in Occupational Hygiene and Toxicology, is a Certified Occupational Hygienist ® and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienist. Her work experience includes in industry has included technical and leadership roles in Australia and the US. With experience in construction safety, operations and maintenance of major hazard facilities, Tracey understands workplace exposures and what needs to change in order to get better health outcomes for Australian workers. Most recently she has focused on pandemic response for a multinational workforce.

Lisa Mills

Lisa holds a PhD in Environmental Engineering and a Masters in Occupational Hygiene and Toxicology. She is a full member of the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists and a Certified Environmental Practitioner. Lisa has over 20 years’ experience across mining, power generation and consulting sectors and is currently the Environment and Sustainability Manager at GeelongPort. Lisa believes strongly that industrial operations, worker protection and environmental sustainability need not be mutually exclusive. Lisa spends much of her time in the field to enable her to fully understand daily operational challenges and to allow her to develop robust, multi-disciplinary, fit for purpose solutions. Lisa joined the AIOH Foundation Board in February 2022 and is excited to be able to contribute to the future direction of the Foundation.

Lana Darbyshire

Lana is very honoured to serve on the AIOH Foundation Board. Lana currently facilitates the delivery of diagnostic imaging guidelines and education for medical practitioners through her role at Perth Radiological Clinic. With the recent re-emergence of silicosis in Australia, Lana is an advocate for increasing awareness among medical practitioners about the importance of health monitoring and the use of effective controls for workers exposed to occupational dust.
